Elexar® Features
What is Elexar®?
Elexar® is an S-EB-S styrene block copolymer based elastomer, which is
specially designed for wire & cable, fiber optic, and electrical
applications. These “rubber-like” materials represent a union of superior
electrical properties, with flexibility and toughness in a compound which can be
processed with the speed and economy of a thermoplastic. The Elexar® compounds
are usually referred to as TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) or TPE (Thermoplastic
Elastomer) compounds.
These Elexar® compounds have proven very reliable over the
years, and are the preferred compounds specified by many of the industry’s top
cable design and electrical engineers. They have typical dielectric strength of
600-900 V/mil and dielectric constant of 2.1-2.4. Many of the grades are UL
“yellow card” listed, meeting the requirements for outdoor weathering UV
resistance, passing the UL 7-day 60°C oil resistance tests, and with brittleness
temperatures well below –60°C.

What Grades of Elexar® Are Available?
Elexar® Thermoplastic Rubber compounds are available in a wide variety of
standard grades in natural, black or colored pellets (Munsell, NEMA or various
Pantone color schemes). Many grades contain copper deactivator suitable for
insulation, UV stabilizers to meet UL weatherability requirements. Many grades
contain flame-retardants to meet stringent FR requirements.
Elexar® 8313
105°C rated compound suitable for automotive insulation.
Elexar® 8421, 8431, 8451
105°C UL rated compounds suitable for both insulation and jacketing of
flexible cord products per UL-62, and for molded plugs and connectors. Elexar®
8451 is an excellent insulation and jacket for SEOOW cords. Elexar® 8431 is
excellent for welding cable jackets, and high flex robotic cables requiring very
low temperature flexibility.
Elexar® 8712, 8730, 8732
105°C UL rated compounds suitable for flame retardant cable jacketing
applications. Elexar® 8730 is suitable for VW-1 flame resistant and oil
resistant constructions, as well as coil cord applications, and can be used as
both insulation and jacketing. Elexar® 8712 is an excellent welding cable jacket
with FR requirements. Elexar® 8732 is suitable for SEOW jackets.
Elexar® 8614, 8623
125°C UL rated compounds suitable for a variety of AWM Style insulations, as
well as ribbon cable products. Excellent flame-retardancy.
Elexar® 3954 Molding
Grade Compounds: Shore hardness of 45A through 90A, with the same excellent
electrical and mechanical/environmental performance of the wire & cable
grades.
Custom Elexar®
Specialty compounds are available or can be developed to suit specific
applications, or where enhanced key performance characteristics are required.
