Elexar® Benefits
ELEXAR® TPE AND TPR COMPOUNDS…
Elexar® TPE and TPR compounds are a quality family of elastomer compounds suitable for
wire & cable, fiber optic, and electrical applications. Their unique blend of
processability, functionality, customization and properties makes them the first
choice of both design engineers and processors. The Elexar® performance advantage and
history of successful finished product introductions is unsurpassed.
The Performance Benefits of Elexar®
Elexar® is well suited for applications with wide temperature range requirements.
Elexar® compounds have continuous UL rated upper temperatures of either 105°C or 125°,
and brittleness temperatures of –60°C to –100°C. They retain their rubber-like feel
and toughness, and provide excellent impact, flex and abrasion resistance performance.
With dielectric constants of 2.1-2.4, and dielectric strengths of 600-900 Volts/mil,
Elexar® compounds provide excellent electrical performance to insulation and jackets,
as well as molded electrical parts. A wide range of flame-retardant grades is available
for both insulation and jackets. Elexar® works well in both heavy wall jackets, or thin
wall insulation down to 0.008”.
The Processing Benefits of Elexar®
Elexar® compounds are supplied as round free flowing pellets. They are available in
natural, black and special colors including Munsell, NEMA or special color matched
formulations. Elexar® can be colored with PE, PP, or EVA color concentrates, usually
in 1-2% loading. Teknor Color EPE color concentrates based on PE are available in all
standard Munsell colors. Pre-drying is generally not necessary prior to extrusion or
molding operations. Wire & cable extrusion production can be done with either pressure
or tubing extrusion, although normally pressure extrusion is used for wire insulation and
tubing extrusion used for jackets. In molding operations, Elexar® offers fast cycle times,
and all grades are fully recyclable.
The Cost Advantage of Elexar®
Since some Elexar® compounds have specific gravity as low as 0.90, excellent price-volume economies can be realized as compared to alternative compounds. Because Elexar® is fully thermoplastic, it does not require expensive curing or cross-linking equipment to achieve its compound performance.
