Post-molding Anti-Static Additives
The addition of post molding antistatic agents to a rotomolding resin is typically done to alleviate the attraction of dust and dirt to the surface of the molded part, to eliminate electrostatic shocks to anyone handling the part, or for other reasons of safety. Post molding antistats are normally based on conventional antistatic agents that require relatively high humidity to be effective. Because they migrate to the surface of the part, where they attract moisture from the atmosphere, which creates a conductive path that allows the static charge to dissipate, they have a somewhat limited lifespan. How long that is depends on a number of different variables including the wall thickness of the part, the amount of antistat that is added, processing and exposure conditions, and resin type. Teknor Color Company does provide the rotomolding industry with post molding additives.
