TEKNOR APEX OFFERS WIDE RANGE OF MEDICAL GRADES OF UNIPRENE (R) TPV WITH ISO-STANDARD APPROVAL CRITICAL FOR INTERNATIONAL MARKET

SINGAPORE, January 30, 2007: Now available from Singapore Polymer Corporation (SPC) is an extensive range of Uniprene (R) thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) elastomers that can improve the performance of medical devices and have approval under the internationally recognized ISO 10993 standard on biocompatibility, it was announced today by SPC, which will introduce the compounds to the Asian market at Chinaplas 2007 (Booth 2D115, Hall 2D). At its Singapore facility, SPC will be able to manufacture most of these compounds, in grades identical to those supplied elsewhere in the world by its corporate parent, Teknor Apex Company.

Formulated in standard Uniprene 7010 and customized grades for medical, food-contact, and potable-water applications, these compounds can be injection molded or extruded and range in hardness from a very soft 15 Shore A to a semi-rigid 50 Shore D (see accompanying table for property data). Examples of current and potential applications include syringe plunger tips and seals, vial and pipette stoppers, gaskets, lines, films, coatings, filter elements, tubing, bellows, bulbs, diaphragms, and other soft-touch applications.

“Because they exhibit lower compression set and greater room- and low-temperature elasticity than widely used non-TPV thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), these Uniprene compounds provide improved performance for sealing and other dynamic components that are exposed to higher use temperatures (up to 125 deg.C) and undergo repeated flexure,” said Esther Han, SPC’s marketing manager for TPEs.

All Uniprene 7010 Series products conform to 21 CFR (Title 21 US Code of Federal Regulations) and have been approved for potable-water applications in accordance with NSF Standard 61. The softer custom grades are in the process of being submitted for appropriate North American and European Union regulatory approvals.
