CHICAGO, June 10, 2002: Two new series of Apex (R) clear flexible vinyl compounds provide manufacturers of plugs, grommets, and other injection molded wiring components for appliances and other electrical devices with the industry's widest selection of grades pre-listed for flame class ratings under UL Subject 94, Teknor Apex announced today at Wire Expo 2002 (Booth 528).
Apex Series 6500 and 7500 compounds have service temperature ratings of 60 and 105 deg. C, respectively. Within each series are grades ranging in Shore A hardness from 70 to 104 and UL 94 flame ratings from HB to V0 in thicknesses from 0.75 to 3.0 mm. All colors are approved under the UL listing. List prices range from US$ 0.65 to 0.85 /lb.
Additional listings for the compounds under UL 94 include zero ratings in tests for hot wire ignition (HWI), high arcing index (HAI), and comparative tracking index (CTI).
"Because we have secured UL listings for such a broad range of compounds, our customers can avoid the time and cost of doing it themselves for each of their products," said Donald G. Ouellette, industry manager for the Vinyl Division of Teknor Apex. "No competing line of vinyl molding compounds includes such a diversity of pre-approved formulations."
UL lists the new Apex series for use in plastic components recognized in category QMFZ2. Typical applications include plugs for cords in lamps and other devices, connectors, grommets, strain reliefs, receptacles, and adaptors.
