PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A., March 24, 2000: Teknor Apex, a leading compounder of flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is inviting processors and specifiers around the world to apply for a 1 ½-day seminar that can help them to maximize their success in selecting and using flexible vinyl compounds, it was announced today by Dr. Robert S Broookman, Vice President of the company's PVC Group.
Entitled Flexible PVC: Guidelines for Success, the seminar will be conducted at regular intervals, beginning in August of 2000, at Teknor Apex world headquarters in Pawtucket. It will be open to business managers, design engineers, and technicians in every end use market who are involved in the selection or processing of flexible vinyl compounds, whether or not they are customers of Teknor Apex.
"We have developed this seminar to meet what we see as an industry need to know about the great untapped potential for flexible vinyl," said Brookman. "Besides acquiring information that can help increase profitability in existing PVC applications, participants will discover innovations that expand the capabilities of vinyl and generate new business opportunities."
Besides Brookman, presenters will include Dr. John Andries, Senior Vice President for Technology, Louis R. Cappucci, Vice President of the Chemicals Division, and a team of Teknor Apex scientists and end-use market specialists. Topics will include:
· Fundamentals of vinyl, including the chemistry of PVC polymer and plasticizers (which the Chemicals Division manufactures), how flexible PVC is compounded, and a tour of the Teknor Apex laboratories, pilot plant, and compounding facility at Pawtucket.
· Compounding for end-use markets, including wire and cable, automotive, medical, food-grade, and general-purpose molding and extrusion.
· Key considerations in processing, such as coloring and quality control. A specialist from affiliate Teknor Color Company will address the topic of coloring flexible PVC.
· Health and environmental issues relating to PVC and plasticizers. These will be discussed by an expert from the Vinyl Institute.
· Recent compound innovations that broaden the processing and end-use performance capabilities of flexible vinyl, generating new applications.
· Round-table discussions with Teknor Apex scientists, in which participants can discuss needs and problems that could be addressed by new compound development.
