ADELSHOFEN-TAUBERZELL, GERMANY, March 1, 2002: An alliance formed by two leading manufacturers of specialty thermoplastic compounds will provide processors in European Union countries with a local supply of high-performance Uniprene (R) thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) elastomers and improved access to sales and technical service, it was announced today by the alliance partners.

Under the agreement, PTS Plastic Technologie Service GmbH will employ technology developed in the United States by Teknor Apex Company to produce the TPV compounds and market them in the EU under the Teknor Apex tradename Uniprene.

PTS is based in Adelshofen-Tauberzell, Germany, and maintains a network of direct-sales offices and agents in the Benelux countries, England, France, Italy, Hungary, and Norway.

"Producing Uniprene compounds in Europe will assure processors there of short delivery times, reduced shipping costs, and ready access to technical service," said Suresh Swaminathan, Teknor Apex Vice President in charge of the Thermoplastic Elastomer Division. "As an experienced and widely respected compounder of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) and engineering thermoplastics, PTS can provide expert support to users of Uniprene compounds."

Consisting of a dispersion of a vulcanized thermoset rubber in a thermoplastic matrix such as polypropylene, TPVs are more rubber-like than other widely used TPEs, exhibiting greater elasticity, chemical resistance, and property retention at temperature extremes. They are widely used in automotive and appliance components, consumer products, medical devices, and building products. Many applications involve overmolding or coextruding rubbery TPVs onto rigid substrates, as in "soft-touch" grips and handles for consumer items.

"The Teknor Apex technology yields compounds that are superior to competing TPVs in
terms of consistency, colorability, and processability," said Dipl. Ing. Uwe Stenglin, President of PTS.

PTS Group was founded in 1986. Company headquarters are at Hautschenmühle 3, D-91587 Adelshofen-Tauberzell, Germany. Tel: 49-9865-821. Fax: 49-9865-720. E-mail: info@PTS-Marketing.de. Visit www.PTS-Marketing.de.
