Concentrates Yield Intense Color in Fiber Optic Applications of FireGuard Low-Smoke, Non-Halogenated Compounds

Teknor Color Company has developed color concentrates for use in fiber optic riser cables with n ew FireGUARD (registered trademark) LSNH low-smoke, non-halogenated jacket and buffer compounds from affiliate Teknor Apex Plastics Division. Available in ten standard colors and custom-match formulations, the new concentrates are being introduced by Tek nor Color at Wire Expo. At the same event, Teknor Apex Plastics Division is exhibiting FireGUARD LSNH compounds in North America for the first time.

"Non-halogenated flame-retardant compounds typically are more difficult to color than halogenated ones, but we have developed concentrates which are so efficient that they impart intense coloration to FireGUARD LSNH compounds even at standard addition lev els," said Sheila McCarthy, Market Manager. "To achieve equivalent intensity with conventional concentrates, manufacturers would have to add them at higher levels that could compromise cable performance."

Supplied as pellets, the concentrates include the following standard colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, gray, and white.
