Dry Colors

Our knowledge of pigment and resin chemistry, coupled with our understanding of the unique characteristics of rotational molding, assures the best solution for your application. We also offer a full complement of process and performance functional additives such as anti-static agents. Dry colors can be supplied in bulk or custom pre-weighed unitized packages.

Standard Stock Colors

Teknor Color has 12 standard colors that are readily available to ship in any quantity with short notice.
They are: white, grey, black, red, yellow, brown, light green, green, light blue, blue, pink, and orange.

Custom Colors

Our specialty is to provide custom solutions. We can work with Pantone color numbers, paper swatches, paint chips, metal plaques, pieces of fabric, or even a rough description of the desired color. Using advanced spectrophotometers our color laboratories help ensure precise color matching and quality assurance. Custom colorants are available for injection molding, blow molding, sheet extrusion, profile extrusion, rotational molding, and calendared film.

Special Effects

Special effect colors can help you differentiate your products in the marketplace, no matter your industry.

MetaLustre™:

These color concentrates provide a luxurious metallic look, all while eliminating the time and guesswork involved in developing new color packages. They are available in aluminum, blue steel, brass, copper, gold, and pewter. We have multiple formulations designed to deliver an identical hue in packages made from various resins. Formulations are available for PET, PETG, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP (including clarified and copolymer types), ionomer, crystal PS, HIPS, SAN, ABS, PC, nylon, and TPEs used in "soft-touch" applications.

FDA and Non-FDA Transparent Color Silver Sparkles:

These color concentrates comply with FDA specifications under the Code of Federal Regulations. The series features four transparent colors with suspended silver sparkles and is formulated without heavy-metal based pigments. These are available in transparent blue, green, purple, and clear with silver sparkles suspended throughout the color.

Our standard colors are formulated for clear polystryrene, but custom formulations can be developed for SAN, ABS, PE, or PP. Use with injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion at let down ratios of 25:1 or 33:1. Offered in bead or pellet form, these are suitable for food/beverage containers, shampoo bottles, caps/closures, cosmetic cases, housewares, bathroom accessories, food trays, and baby products.

Flip-Flop/Pearlescent:

These concentrates change color when turned or viewed from different angles. The concentrates also impart lustrous pearl colors that exhibit intriguing iridescent effects in molded or extruded parts. The products are designed for use with homopolymer polypropylene (PP), clarified PP, polyethylene, and transparent polystyrene processed on conventional extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding equipment.

The concentrates, which contain no heavy metal pigments and meet CONEG regulations, are available in red, gold, blue, green, orange, and violet formulations. They are not recommended for direct food contact. The concentrates run well at let down ratios of 25: 1 (i.e., 25 parts resin to one part concentrate), yielding highly reproducible special effects.

Fluorescent:

Our line of fluorescent colors consists of six colors (green, yellow, red, pink, orange, and purple). One series is formulated in a PP carrier for use with clarified PP. The other series is formulated for use in natural polyethylene.

Frosted/Translucent:

Frosted or translucent special effects are available in light blue, light green, lime, dark green, yellow, and red concentrates. Due to the heavy metal-free pigments in a polypropylene carrier resin, a frosted effect can be produced uniformly throughout the molded or extruded product enhancing its consumer appeal.

Frosted colors are supplied as nominal 0.125 to 0.0625-inch pellets or beads and can be used with homopolymer or copolymer polypropylene resins at a let down ratio of 50:1.

Jelly Colors:

Formulated without the use of heavy metal pigments, Teknor's transparent “jelly colors” are available in plum, orange, grape, blueberry, mint, and strawberry. Available in pellets or beads, they can be used in clarified polypropylene as EVA or other clear-based materials. These colors offer excellent UV stability and heat resistance.

Neon Edge Glow:

These colorants provide a neon edge glow effect in clear polystyrene. The colorants can also be used in other clear resins such as acrylic and clear ABS. Available colors include transparent orange, red, yellow, and blue shades. They feature easy dispersion and favorable thermal stability. Depending on the thickness of the application, the let down ratio is 50:1 or 100:1.

Neon Edge Glow Silver Sparkle:

A combination of special edge glow and sparkle effects is possible with these colorants. These are available in transparent red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and orange/red with silver sparkles suspended throughout. They are also formulated without heavy metal-based pigments.

The sparkles near the surface of the part appear to be silver while those below the surface take on the particular transparent color used; a two-tone effect is created. Additionally, the silver sparkles deflect light in a way that hides surface imperfections. Designed specifically to be used for polystyrene, these custom formulations can be developed for SAN, ABS, and acrylic. Available in pellets or beads, the concentrates have let down ratios between 25:1 and 33:1. They meet all applicable CONEG regulations.

Pearl Colors:

Regular and FDA series are formulated without heavy metals and exhibit pearl color effects in their end-use applications. Pearl concentrates are available in green, gold, white, and silver concept colors. The FDA pearl concentrates come in white, pink, blue, and red concept colors.

Silver Sparkle Blizzard Series:

Formulated especially for polyethylene applications, this series contains a maximum loading of silver sparkles to create a “blizzard” effect. They are available in transparent red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and orange/red with silver sparkles suspended throughout, and are formulated without heavy metal-based pigments.

The sparkles near the surface of the part appear to be silver while those below the surface take on the particular transparent color used; ultimately, a two-tone effect is created. Additionally, the silver sparkles deflect light in a way that hides surface imperfections. Formulated for polyethylene, custom formulations can be developed for SAN, clear ABS, and acrylic. Available in pellets or beads, the concentrates have let down ratios between 25:1 and 33:1. They meet all applicable CONEG regulations.

Bioresin Colors and Concentrates

Developed to meet growing customer demands for use in goods that are biodegradable and/or based on renewable resources, our bioresin functional concentrates can be used alone or in combination with colorants. They are suitable for injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding processes. Teknor Color has three series of color concentrates: PLA-carrier concentrates, biodegradable co-polyester (PBAT) carrier concentrates, and PETek® PET-carrier concentrates.

The three series of colorants differ in terms of their carrier resins, which are either PLA or polyesters compatible with PLA and thus readily blended into it and are available in custom colors.

  • PLA-carrier concentrates are for use in PLA-compatible resins.
  • Biodegradable co-polyester carrier concentrates are recommended for blown film extrusion, and applications that require greater flexibility than is provided by 100% PLA formulations.
  • PETek® PET-carrier concentrates are for non-biodegradable applications where use of a biopolymer base resin such as PLA is desired.

Teknor Color also developed a series of bioresin functional concentrates. They can be used to improve the PLA process and/or performance.

  • Terraloy® PLA Process Improvement Concentrates: A nucleating agent and melt strength enhancer for color concentrates.

  • Terraloy® PLA Performance Improvement Concentrates: Two impact modifier color concentrates one each for injection molding and extrusion processes.

Pre-Colored Compounds

Pre-colored compounds are polymer systems that are ready for fabrication when received by the molder. Contrary to the term "pre-color," these compounds may be natural in color but contain special additive systems. Pre-color compounds can also consist of just one pigmented resin, or one containing both color and special additives. Custom pre-colored compounds are available based on all types of thermoplastic resins as well as bioresins and are suitable for use in all fabrication processes.
