Flexalloy Cable Jacketing for Harsh Industrial Environments

There’s intelligence coursing through oil rigs and manufacturing plants, mines and electrical substations.

These industrial environments have the same data requirements as the front office (if not higher), but the cables that carry that data — and even power – must withstand harsh elements and conditions.

We created two new Flexalloy vinyl elastomer cable jacketing compounds with these unforgiving settings in mind.

  • Flexalloy 9616-94 is a high-hardness elastomer that provides crush and impact resistance and UV stability for uses like mining cable, and flame retardance for applications such as industrial Ethernet networks. The 73 Shore C compound has an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 75 °C.
  • Flexalloy 9617-79 for use in oil drilling and chemical environments contains a specialty plasticizer that combined with the high-molecular-weight PVC polymer on which Flexalloy compounds are based—provides excellent resistance to oils and chemicals. The 79 Shore A compound has a maximum continuous operating temperature rating of 105 °C and meets UL-1277 oil rating requirements after four days at 100 ºC.
