Adhesion of Medalist® TPE to Tritan™ Copolyester for Medical Devices

Learn How 2K Overmolded TPEs Exhibit Excellent Adhesion to Copolyester Even After Exposure to Common Disinfectants and IV Nutrients

This joint study conducted by Teknor Apex and Eastman evaluates the adhesion of Medalist® medical-grade TPE (from 40 to 60 Shore A) to four Tritan™ copolyester materials. Adhesion was measured using a 90° peel test on test specimens produced using a 2-shot molding process. To demonstrate the chemical resistance of each bond, peel strength was also measured after exposing the test specimen to 70% IPA, Clorox® bleach and 20% intralipids for a 48-hour soak at room temperature. Test results indicate that Medalist TPE overmolded onto Tritan copolyester can be used to add features such as gaskets, grips, seals and handles to medical housings and other medical devices without concern for bond strength reduction from chemical attack by common antiseptics or nutritional substances.
