Teknor Apex Expands Creamid® -V Crosslinkable Compound Portfolio with Polyamides Until Now Supplied by Celanese Under the Frianyl® VN Brand

Agreement with Celanese Enables Compounds to Be Documented as Already Meeting UL, CSA, and Other Requirements for Electrical and Electronics Applications

TAUBERZELL, GERMANY, February 24, 2020: Teknor Apex Company has entered into a licensing agreement with Celanese Corporation allowing it to offer crosslinkable flame retardant polyamide 6 compounds that are technically identical with Frianyl® VN products developed by Celanese and meet the same UL, CSA, and other requirements for electrical and electronics applications.

The compounds join a wide range of crosslinkable compounds already offered by Teknor Apex under the Creamid®-V brand, and include unfilled, mineral-filled, unreinforced, and glass fiber-reinforced formulations.

Creamid-V polyamides are designed to be crosslinked after melt processing by means of irradiation, thus effectively bridging the gap between a traditional thermoset and a thermoplastic compound. While maintaining all the processing-related benefits of thermoplastic compounds prior to crosslinking, articles made from these compounds exhibit improvement of various properties, including dimensional stability, mechanical strength, chemical resistance, resistance to thermal aging, and wear resistance. Crosslinked parts are able to withstand short-term temperatures far above 350 °C without melting.

“The agreement between Celanese and Teknor Apex spares customers from the challenge of finding suitable alternative materials, along with the extensive and costly procedure of obtaining new device approvals,” said Markus Krippner, Teknor Apex director of new business development for engineering thermoplastics, “Even the UL listings have been transferred to Teknor Apex.”

The Creamid-V product range has been market leader in irradiated polymers for more than 30 years, with technology originally developed by Plastic-Technologie-Service (PTS), which Teknor Apex acquired in 2016. Teknor Apex offers a broad range of crosslinkable grades of various engineering thermoplastics, including but not limited to PA, PBT, TPE, TPC, and PEBA.
