Polyphthalamide (PPA)

High Temperature Nylon (HTN)

Creamid® 9T polyphthalamide (PPA) is one of the highest performing polyamides.  Classified as a high temperature nylon (HTN), Creamid 9T exhibits superior mechanical performance at elevated temperatures and excellent hydrolysis resistance, which is an ideal combination for automotive under-the-hood components as well as electrical-electronic (E&E) applications. Creamid 9T PPA is suitable for injection molding and extrusion and can be customized with reinforcements and flame retardants.

Characteristics of Creamid® 9T PPA

High Heat Resistance
Creamid 9T PPA exhibits better thermal performance than standard polyamides with a melting point of 304 °C and a glass transition temperature of 125 °C.

Melt Temperature and Glass Transition Temperature Comparison

Low Moisture Absorption
Creamid 9T PPA absorbs significantly less water versus other polyamides, allowing for more stable mechanical properties and excellent dimensional stability.

Improved Chemical Resistance

The unique chemistry of Creamid 9T PPA, including an aliphatic long chain C9 moiety with an aromatic moiety in the polymer backbone, provides greater resistance to a broader range of chemicals than standard polyamides, even at elevated temperatures.

Superior Hydrolysis Resistance to Automotive Coolant

The graphs below demonstrate the superior hydrolysis resistance of Creamid 9T to automotive coolant
(Glycol :  Water) at 130 ⁰C.  After full immersion continuous exposure for 1008 hours, Creamid 9T retains more than 70% of its tensile strength and shows no significant change in tensile elongation.  Creamid 9T is an excellent candidate for molded automotive cooling system components, such as water pump connectors, impellers, and housings. Other PPA compounds (PA 6T/x based) that are suitable for such applications require mold temperatures in the 160 ⁰C range, making oil-heated tooling necessary.  However, Creamid 9T PPA compounds require lower mold temperatures (110 to 130 ⁰C) and are readily molded using standard hot-water heated tools.
