New Automotive Product Naming & Selection Guide

October 15, 2014

Our customers are pleased to hear that Teknor Apex is standardizing and streamlining our product grade selection process for ease of purchasing.

This new selection methodology is designed for easy integration into enterprise systems, so that customers can select the same product in Europe, North America and Asia.

The theory is simple when it’s broken down:

Apex 15XY-##

15 = Automotive family of compounds

X = Application Series

0 = Interior, 2 = Window Encapsulation, 4 = Exterior, 5 = Cable Jacket, 7 = Mats & Pads, 8 = Drain Tubes, 9 = Fluid Resistant

Y = Process Type

3 = Injection Molding, 5 = Extrusion, 7 = Tape & Film

XX = Hardness, Shore A

Here is an example of an extrusion-grade PVC for window encapsulation:

Apex 1545-75:

Trade Name = Apex

Industry = 15 (Automotive), Application = 4 (Exterior), Process Type = 5 (Extrusion), Hardness = 75 Shore A

Approvals by all major OEMs with the new nomenclature are underway.

We’re here to support your changeover needs across any system. In the coming months we will also be issuing documentation certifying the new name for the same products you buy today.
