A Diversified Wire, Cable and Electrical Vinyl Compound Portfolio

Teknor Apex has established a portfolio of over 3,000 wire and cable compounds, many of which are UL recognized. This makes it unnecessary, in many cases, for customers to submit cables for extensive performance testing.

In addition to these standard grades, we are committed, as a custom compounder, to developing new compounds for specific customer requirements and for emerging new applications. Much of our current product development focuses on applications that present special challenges.

With technological advances and world urbanization come ample opportunities to create compounds like we never knew possible. As new markets emerge within the wire, cable and electronic sector, and as the global regulatory environment becomes more complex, it is more important than ever for cable manufacturers to partner with a compounding company that has the expertise and experience to meet these challenges.

Teknor Apex relies heavily on our R&D teams to help meet our customer’s compound needs. We have some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate application development engineers in the industry collaborating with our customers to create exciting new PVC compounds for a variety of different applications.

For example, one current area of development is jacket compounds for “Power over Ethernet” (PoE) applications. These copper or hybrid copper-fiber data cables transmit both data and electrical energy. Applications include LED lighting, Wi-Fi antennas, security sensors, switches, cameras and other such devices. Jacket materials require higher temperature ratings due to increased heating of today’s higher wattage PoE applications. Teknor Apex has developed compounds for PoE cabling used in both plenum and riser applications that are capable of meeting these evolving requirements.

Another stream of development work at Teknor Apex involves a diverse range of jacket requirements for alternative energy applications, such as electric vehicle chargers and wind turbines. In almost all cases these applications require compounds that perform well over broad temperature ranges and exposure to harsh environments. Our R&D teams have met these specific challenges as well.

Our main focus at Teknor Apex is customer satisfaction. We want to provide the compounds you need and meet every specification required for your applications, for both performance and processability. Our R&D engineers welcome these opportunities to develop compounds which meet the challenges that arise from innovations in technology.
