Halguard® 58650 Compound from Teknor Apex Performs Well over Broad Temperature Range and Processes Efficiently for Fiber Optic or Copper Applications
PAWTUCKET, RI, U.S.A., September 8, 2016: A new low-smoke halogen-free flame retardant (LS-HFFR) jacket compound provides enhanced resistance to thermal shock and excellent processability, along with the low-shrink properties required for fiber optic cable, it was announced today by Teknor Apex Company, which will introduce the product at Wire China 2016 (Booth W1E01) and at IWCS 2016 (Booth 213).
Halguard® 58650 compound performs well over a broad temperature range, from a brittle point of -47 °C to a maximum continuous operating temperature of 105 °C. It exhibits post-extrusion linear shrinkage values of only 2%, has passed Teknor Apex internal tests for heat shock at 121 °C, and exhibits deformation of only 4% at 121 °C (UL-1581). The new compound passes a 720-hour sunlight resistance test (UL-1581) with high levels of property retention. Its UL-94 vertical burn rating is V-0 (see table).
Teknor Apex recommends Halguard 58650 compound for fiber optic and copper data cable as well as telecommunications antenna, power, industrial, and transit applications. The product is available globally.
“Halguard 58650 exhibits a superior balance of flame retardancy, high-temperature performance, and processability in comparison with standard HFFR compounds,” said David Braun, industry manager for the Vinyl Division. “This combination is particularly well suited for indoor/outdoor applications where cable may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.”
