Frequently Asked Questions:

Rigid PVC compounds are used in a wide range of applications including profile extrusion, sheet extrusion, injection-molded components, blow-molded parts, conduit, fittings, and other structural or industrial products. They offer excellent dimensional stability and rigidity, making them ideal for construction, electrical, and general-purpose industrial markets.

Rigid PVC contains little to no plasticizer, resulting in higher stiffness, dimensional stability, and structural strength. Flexible PVC incorporates plasticizers to provide softness and flexibility. Rigid PVC is typically chosen for applications requiring strength and shape retention, while flexible PVC is used in hoses, tubing, wire insulation, and soft-touch components.

Yes. Teknor Apex specializes in developing custom rigid PVC formulations tailored to meet specific processing, performance, regulatory, or environmental requirements. Custom options may include UV stability, impact strength, flame performance, color matching, and specialized processing characteristics for extrusion or molding.

Certain rigid PVC formulations—especially those within the Weatherguard® product family—are engineered for enhanced weatherability and UV resistance. For outdoor applications, Teknor Apex recommends selecting a grade designed specifically to withstand sunlight exposure, temperature cycling, and environmental stress.

Yes. Many rigid PVC formulations inherently exhibit flame-retardant behavior and can be tailored to meet specific flame or smoke requirements. Teknor Apex can design rigid PVC compounds to comply with relevant industry standards depending on the end-use application.

Teknor Apex rigid PVC grades are engineered for multiple processing methods, including profile extrusion, sheet extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding. Each formulation is developed to provide consistent melt flow, dimensional control, and surface finish for the intended process.
